Amity's legacy
Healing Bodies to Healing Minds
- from Amity Medical Clinic to Amity Therapy.
Dr. Wong is a Family Physician whose grandfather was a Chinese Physician who owned a medical hall along Weld Road known as 万爱和, translated as “ten thousand loves and harmony”. The practice started before WW2. The medical hall was stocked full with different Chinese herbs. He was a traditional Chinese sinseh who relied on his skills of pulse examination to aid his diagnoses and the prescribing of traditional herbs for ailments.
Growing up watching his grandfather practise his skills and observing his uncle grind and prepare the different herbs, Wen Tsung was inspired to be a doctor. Grandpa was happy and proud to be a role model for his eldest grandson to develop an interest in the healing profession.
Wen Tsung went on to graduate and eventually set up his own medical clinic in 1986. In honor of his grandfather, he named the clinic Amity, “ 万和”. His wife, Vicki, who is a State Registered Nurse, was alongside him in establishing Amity Medical Clinic.
During the many years of clinical practice in Bukit Batok, many families who stay around the area have come to know Wen Tsung and Vicki well. For some families, he served as their family doctor for three generations.
After 36 years of running the clinic, he retired in 2023. It seemed a pity that this medical legacy should end with retirement. This space of healing held a special significance for both of them. In an effort to continue with the tradition of healing, they decided to start a Therapy Centre where Clinical Hypnosis is the main form of management of a range of emotional and psychological challenges.
Vicki is a trained Clinical Hypnotherapist, having obtained her initial Hypnotherapy certificate and Diploma at Tan Tock Seng Hospital in collaboration with the London College of Clinical Hypnosis in 2009. Subsequently, she has continued with further training in Clinical hypnotherapy and other modalities.
With decades of nursing experience in National University Hospital, combined with insight and skills as a Clinical Hypnotherapist, Vicki hopes to carry on the tradition of healing within this place.
Amity Therapy seems a natural continuation of a grandfather’s legacy, from Chinese herbal medicine to Western Medicine to Hypnotherapy, from healing bodies to healing minds.
